Code

Welcome to my blog! I’m excited to share with you the things I am passionate about… Programming, Technology and Traveling.

I started programming several years ago and I began with Visual Basic. I quickly learned that C# was the future and was fortunate enough to switch early in the learning process.

Bob Tabor was instrumental in helping me learn C# and I encourage you to check out his free course on Channel 9. He has more courses available on his website BobTabor.com

I had previously played around with programming but in 2014 I got serious. I had an idea for an app I wanted to create and dove in to putting what I was learning into practice. In the spring of 2015 I released my app on the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store.

After Microsoft abandoned it’s mobile efforts and began to focus on making their apps available for iOS and Android I decided to follow suit.

That was about the time Microsoft purchased Xamarin and I decided that was the tool I needed to learn if I was going to create great cross-platform mobile apps for iOS and Android.

I came across a Xamarin expert in James Montemagno. His Xamarin Show series on Channel 9 is what helped jump start my career with Xamarin. You should also check out his blog at montemagno.com

Tech

In the late 70’s my parents purchased an Atari 2600 and that is when I fell in love with technology. My mom especially loved technology and I learned it from her.

We then got a Nintendo and in the mid 80’s we got our first computer, a Commodore 64. I remember having a subscription to a computer magazine and practicing the code that was in the back of the magazine. That is when I got my first taste at programming.

In 1995, my mom stood in line all night to get one of the first copies of Windows 95. Shortly after that I began my career in IT working with DOS and Windows 3.1. I’ve received

I have had many Microsoft products over the years and I do admit I love all things Microsoft, including Windows Phone (I miss my Lumia 1520). However, I do not hate other technology. I have a MacBook Air, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy phone, Amazon Fire tablet, Fire Stick, Chromebit, Surface Pro and Surface Studio, a Ring Doorbell, an August Smart Lock and many other devices that I love to play with.

Travel

Over the years I have had the opportunity to visit many places. Having grown up in the Midwest I have been to most States east of the Mississippi River.

My wife and I have been to the Seattle Space Needle, San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, Sequoia National Park, Grand Canyon, Mall of America, St. Louis Arch, Graceland, the Florida Keys and many other locations within the United States. Including Alaska and Hawaii.

We’ve also been to the Virgin Islands, Jamaica, several places in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Paris and South Africa.

We don’t typically visit the same place twice because we love to see new places.

Summary

I look forward to sharing tips and tricks to help those of you who are interested in programming. Along the way I will include some posts on technology and travel.
